But only do it if there is no possibility to get your car scanned.

Check engine light ON dash means error codes stored in Vehicles Engine computer module.
Getting the computer scan by obd tool is any time advisable.


To reset the Check Engine Light, you can remove the "NEG" cable from the Battery for 15 minutes. Keep in mind, if the reason why the light is on was not repaired correctly, or was not addressed at all, the light WILL return within 50-75 miles of city/highway driving (sooner, depending on where the problem lies).

If you would like to know "why" the light is on, most "big chain" parts stores, like AutoZone, will read the "p-codes" (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) for FREE (except in California). The p-codes serve as the starting point for the diagnosis, and will point to the faulty part/sensor.
