1989 Ford Taurus: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Testing?

Yes you can Test the sensor before replacing it.
The test will confirm the problem with the sensor.
There are two wires which come from the sensor.
You will need volt meter to test the Voltage.
To test the ECT sensor, you can measure voltage across the 2 wires with the sensor plugged in and the key on with the engine hot.

Use the chart below to see if the signal is in range.
