- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
WARNINGUnless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components. - Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the electrical connector at the vehicle speed sensor.
- Remove the retaining stud.
- Pull the sensor straight out in order to avoid damage to the case.
To install:
- Make sure the vehicle speed sensor is clean and dry.
NOTEUse the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems. - Install the vehicle speed sensor and the retaining bolt. Tighten the stud to 97 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
- Install the electrical connector at the sensor.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten the terminal bolt to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
Getrag 5-Speed

- Remove the left front wheel.
- Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) electrical connector (2).
- Remove the retainer bolt.
- Remove the retainer.
- Remove the VSS.
- Remove and discard the O-ring.
To install:
- Lubricate a new O-ring with clean transaxle fluid.
- Install the new O-ring.
- Install the VSS retainer.
- Install the VSS assembly.
- Install the VSS retainer bolt. Tighten the bolt to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
