Accessory Drive Belts
It includes,routing,replacing,installation,adjustments and diagrams.
Adjustment
The accessory drive belt adjustment is maintained by an automatic tensioner.
Drive Belt Routings
Inspection
Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.
Removal & Installation
2.0L Engine
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
NOTEThe drive belt tensioner is an hydraulic tensioner and will have a high initial torque to compress. Release slowly to ensure proper operation. - Install a tight fitting 15mm open end wrench to the drive belt tensioner lug on the rear of the tensioner.
- Very slowly push down and towards the back of the vehicle in order to slowly compress the drive belt tensioner.
- Remove the drive belt from over the drive belt tensioner.
- Very slowly, allow the drive belt tensioner to return to the extended position.
- Remove the drive belt from around the supercharger and alternator pulleys.
- Remove the right front fender liner.
- Remove the drive belt from under the idler pulley and around the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor and crankshaft damper.
- Remove the accessory drive belt through the wheel house opening,.
To install:
- Install the accessory drive belt through the wheel house opening.
- Route the drive belt around the A/C compressor and crankshaft damper and under the idler pulley.
- Install the right front fender liner.
- Route the drive belt around the supercharger and alternator pulleys.
- Ensure that the drive belt is properly seated in the pulley grooves.
- Using a 15mm open end wrench, very slowly push down and towards the back of the vehicle to slowly compress the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Install the drive belt over the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Very slowly, allow the drive belt tensioner to return to the extended position until tension is applied to the drive belt.
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Remove the engine splash shield.
- Install the special tool J 44811 to the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Rotate the tensioner counterclockwise in order to release the tension from the accessory drive belt.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Slowly rotate special tool J 44811 and the tensioner clockwise in order to allow the tensioner to rest.
- Remove special tool J 44811 from the drive belt tensioner.
To install:
- Install and position the drive belt around all of the pulleys except for the drive belt tensioner.
- Install special tool J 44811 to the drive belt tensioner.
- Using special tool J 44811, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise.
- Position the drive belt under the tensioner pulley.
