Gear indicator Shows "3" Instead Of "D"?

2006 Jeep Commander has Driving issues with Gear Shift Indicator Shows its in 3rd gear when its in Drive mode.
It will go to third gear and not other gears.

WHY GEAR INDICATOR SHOWS 3 AND WHY GEAR SHIFT ISSUES?

Its common issue. The vehicle is going in Limp mode.

In your case also the transmission is going and stuck up in Limp mode.
The problem is related to transmission and gear Shift solenoid issue. But there are many possibilities in that which can cause these problems.

The first step in diagnosing the problem will be to see what fault codes have stored.
Do you have a code reader or scan tool to check for fault codes?
Also not to worry if you dont have Scan tool.
Most parts stores like Autozone will read codes for free.

Once the codes are retrieved you can start your further troubleshooting as per Error codes.

THE ERROR CODES RETRIEVED ARE P0750 and P0700?

As i already told before that problem will be mostly related to Transmission or Solenoid pack. The Error code is indicating the same.

PLEASE GIVE ME MORE DETAILS ABOUT THIS BOTH OBD ERROR CODES?

In your jeep vehicle there is a Transmission Controlling module.Whenever there is a Error stored in the TCM( Trans control module. The Error code P0700 gets stored in the ECM( Engine control module).
This one is nothing to worry about and is just informational.
P0700 error code just tells you that there are some more error code stored in your TCM.In your case the other code is P0750.
These code is the one related to your actual problem.

P0750 is for the low/reverse solenoid in the solenoid pack inside the trans. This code sets when the voltage on the circuit is incorrect for a given state.

OK,WHAT ARE POSSIBILITIES THAT CAN CAUSE THIS INCORRECT VOLTAGE ISSUE?

There are few possibilities causing this.A  testing is required to confirm what is the actual cause.

  • The issue of  open circuit, short to power or ground on the low/reverse solenoid driver wire anywhere between the powertrain control module(PCM) and the trans.
  • Or a faulty powertrain control module(PCM) itself. A wiring problem or the module are certainly possible but not common.
  • It can be the connection issue at the large connector on the left side of the transmission, but again that's not common. Its noticed on some rare cases.Buy why to ignore that possibility too.

WHAT IS MOST COMMON CAUSE?

As per my experience and the cases which come at our garage center. In such cases the most possible problem is issue with solenoid pack.

In your case also,as per your problem description an your mentioned error code it seems like issue with solenoid.
By far the most common cause of a solenoid code is a failed solenoid, requiring solenoid pack replacement.

WHERE IS SOLENOID PACK LOCATED ON JEEP COMMANDER?

On your model year jeep vehicle the solenoid pack is mounted to the top of the valve body in the transmission. The best thing to do if the problem is intermittent would be to do a visual inspection of the wiring, and if it's ok then replace the solenoid pack. It's not uncommon for a bad solenoid to set a fault code intermittently as the resistance of it's windings changes.

OK,WHERE CAN I VIEW THE WIRING?

Before directly replacing the parts, its good to inspect the wiring. It can be loose or worn out/dirty or melted wiring. In that case rewiring the parts helps.
To take a look at the wiring slide underneath on the left side.Do it carefully in proper day time light if possible. Now on the left side of the trans near the front you'll see a very large black electrical connector that plugs in from the top down. This is the main connector and wiring that you have inspect and view. Make sure the wiring is visibly ok, also unplug the connector and have a look at the terminals this will give you full idea that wiring is either faulty or its proper.

HOW TO REPLACE SOLENOID PACK?
  • IS IT EASY TASK...CAN I DO IT MYSELF?
Its not very hard. But all depends upon your capability and your ability to do this task.If you have already done such parts replacement before then yes you can.But if as a newbie if you start this part replacing procedure then it will be naturally tough. Also it depends on what you have for tools and your comfort and ability level.

For your information:----
To Replace the solenoid pack you need to drop the trans pan and drain the tranny  fluid. Also both filters need to be removed, and then dropping the valve body.

If you are comfortable,i will mentioned the further procedure. From that you can decide whether to go into doing it yourself or getting it done by the mechanic.

Now once the valve body is out then the Torx screws that hold the solenoid pack to the valve body are removed and the pack is removed from the valve body.

Approx time limit to complete this replacement is 2.0 hours of labor. If you are comfortable with an intermediate skill level repair and are willing to go into the trans then you can probably do it yourself.
AS far as valve bodies go it's not a bad one to remove.

OK,CAN I DRIVE IT LIKE THAT FOR FEW MILES?

Yes its not the issue to drive in same condition for few miles or till you get it to your nearest mechanic.
In same condition driving it isn't going to hurt anything, but when it acts up you are only going to have third or third and fourth gear. You'll notice that it takes off sluggish accordingly and your cruising RPM's will be higher than normal.
But please get it repaired before you actually go for long drives or driving at highway speeds .Driving in that condition is not safe with this problem because you would have to limit your speed to keep engine RPM's down, if you drove normal highway speeds in third gear RPM's would be pretty high. And this can increase the problem.

Hope all goes well. Wish you best Luck.

This details will help.
Thanks.

1996 Chevy Camaroz28: OBD Error code P1441?

Check engine light code P1441.

The  Error code P1441 is a very "generic" code pointing to a fault with the EVAP Purge System.
In this case there is no one single part that is faulty. Its the case of faulty EVAP system. In EVAP System there are several parts, any of that can be the issue.
There are a few different things that can set this code. More commonly, this will be a problem with the EVAP Vacuum Switch or the EVAP Purge Solenoid.
Another reason for this code to be set is issue with EVAP Canister. If the canister is clogged or there is a problem in a vacuum line somewhere.
Best place to start is byu carefully inspecting all the vacuum lines to/from the Purge Solenoid, Vacuum Switch and Canister. Also check for any cracks, holes, kinks, clogs or loose/missing connections. If the visual inspection checks ok, move onto the functionality of the solenoid and switch.
That will be the other possibilities that can cause this OBD error code.
See the help diagram shown below for required part location :----

EVAP Purge Solenoid

This detail will help.
Thanks.

2004 Hummer H2: OBD Code P0141?

Check Engine light code Po141.

First of all check the fuses.

In the underhood fuse panel, check the O2 A and O2 B fuses. If these fuses are both good then the problem is the heater circuit in the bank 1, sensor 2 oxygen sensor.
In this case sensor needs to be replaced. This sensor is on the drivers side, behind the catalytic converter in the exhaust pipe.

It will not harm anything. This sensor just monitors efficiency of the catalytic converter. It does not affect the way the engine runs at all. Okay to drive for a while until you are able to fix.
But dont ignore the issue.
This details will help.
Thanks.

How to reset Error codes?

Is there any procedure to reset OBD error codes on Chrysler Pacifica.

Yes there is procedure.

It requires a scan tool with full function capability to reset. Unfortunately, it cannot be reset by the owner.

"In order to erase this DTC you must reset (erase) the VLP Shift Counter and the Output tooth counter which is a single procedure under Miscellaneous functions in the scan tool called “Clear Variable Line Pressure (VLP) counters”.

This will help.
To reset the check engine light.
If you have already replaced the faulty part and still the check engine light is coming ON,then reset the error codes will help.

Thanks.
