Liftgate will Not Stay Up Open?

The power lift gate for 2007 GMC Vehicle is operating fine. The Liftgate will open with Power but will not remain open.It will come down slowly and get closed.

WHAT IS THE EXACT CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM?

Its mostly the issue with Liftgate Strut.

If it will not stay up, the motor does not hold it up, but the struts assist on the lifting of the door and the holding up of the door. So if it will not stay open and wants to fall closed, the struts are the culprit.

TO CONFIRM THE PROBLEM,TRY THIS CONFIRMATION TEST?

Turn the power lift gate function off and manually lift it up and leave the door and see if its remaining up or coming down.If it remains up then problem is liftgate module. But if the lift gate comes down then its faulty Liftgate struts. There are 2 struts.I suggest replacing both. This are not very costly part.

HOW TO REPLACE LIFT GATE STRUTS?

Its not a difficult job to be done.If you have someone there to help you out then,You can either use 2 people to do it or one. If you use two people to do it, one person holds the liftgate up while the other person changes the struts, or you can use some kind of a holder such as a broom etc.
The rod coming from inside to the gate is for the lift motor, we are just replacing the struts on the outsides of the gate. There are two lift gate struts one on each side. You will need two struts.Buy original and branded parts for perfect fitting and correct results and long lasting performance.

Power Lift-gate will not Operate

2005 Ford Freestar Power Lift gate will not operate.
Replaced Lift gate struts but still the same problem.

WHAT ELSE CAN BE THE PROBLEM?
If the Lift gate is not remaining open or its not getting open properly then its faulty Liftgate struts.
But if the Lift gate is not operating at all, then its faulty Lift gate module or its issue with short in wiring.

SO KNOW IS IT FAULTY LIFTGATE OPERATING MODULE?

There is a PLG (Power liftgate module). Before replacing any parts I do recommend proper testing first.

The power liftgate is inoperative
Circuitry.

  • Liftgate motor/clutch assembly.
  • Liftgate optical sensor.
  • Power liftgate latch.
  • Power liftgate (PLG) module.

Any of this can be faulty and causing the problem.

GIVE ME MORE DETAILS ABOUT ITS WORKING AND VOLTAGE TESTING DETAILS?

This is actual procedure by which the Power Lift gate operates.

If the power liftgate is operated from the overhead console open/close switch, circuit 2054 (YE) is grounded by the open/close switch. Then the SJB grounds circuit 700 (WH/VT), which signals the PLG module of the open/close request.

This voltage should be there as mentioned below:---

Now assuming if the power liftgate is in the CLOSED position and the conditions are correct, the PLG module supplies 12 volts to the unlatch actuator on circuit 2058 (LB/RD) and 12 volts to the clutch on circuit 2062 (LG/RD) and 12 volts to the motor on circuit 2060 (RD/BK). As the liftgate is moving in the open direction, the PLG module monitors the position sensor for obstacles.
So test for 12 volts to this parts terminals.

Assuming if the power liftgate is in the OPEN position and the conditions are correct, the PLG module supplies 12 volts to the clutch on circuit 2062 (LG/RD) and 12 volts to the motor on circuit 2061 (VT/WH). As the liftgate is moving in the close direction, the PLG module monitors the position sensor and the pinch strips for obstacles.Test 12 volts to this parts terminals.

If the voltage is not there to any of this parts, then that particular part needs to be inspected and replaced,if checked out faulty.

OK,WHAT ARE POSSIBLE CAUSES?

To confirm exact fault, get the vehicles module scanned. This will let you know the error codes and as per that you can start .This are few most possible error codes which you will get in scan test. The scan test can be done by OBD II tool scanner or at local auto parts store.Autozone Auto Part do it for free.

Power Liftgate Shuts Down

Power lift gate opens a bit then get down automatically.
It will not open full and gets close after few seconds.
You can say its working but not properly. The problem noticed on 2007 GM Yukon.

The liftgate won't stay open by itself .

WHY THE LIFTGATE IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY?

First of all i will say, this problem is very common and noticed by Many others too.

This is typical of a failed lift gate strut. These gas charged struts are designed to take the weight of opening and closing the lift gate. If one fails, the weight of the liftgate is too much and the power opener cannot open it all the way with out overloading and reversing to protect itself. By time this Lift gate struts gets weak and starts under performing.

HOW CAN I GET THIS FAULT CONFIRMED?

There is a simple test procedure.
TO test, you open it manually and see if it will stay open, If no then replace the liftgate struts.

ARE THIS COSTLY PARTS TO BE REPLACED?

NO,this are not very costly part. Please buy branded parts for more better performance and long lasting parts.
IT is likely one that is out, but since the struts are not expensive, about $45 each. Part numbers are left, 15827433 and right, 15854712.

CAN I REPLACE LIFT GATE STRUTS MY SELF?

  • IS IT EASY JOB FOR DO-IT-YOURSELF?

Yes its not very hard or difficult job for newbie.Just do it carefully.
The metal clip on the end you move with a small screw driver and the end pops off. If you use a broom or assistant to hold the door open it is much easier. It hardly takes few minutes to complete this lift gate replacing task. The clip on the end you pry down and out, then it pops off, just be sure to support the door.

This details will help.
Thanks.
